“Our dream was an old cottage on the ocean. Wonderful old cottages stay in families for generations. We wanted to be the grandparents who started the tradition. Our challenges were: keeping the cottage small, building from Minnesota, and maintaining the charm of an "old cottage" with new construction. Steve Malcom and the Knickerbocker Group were highly recommended. Our realtor, attorney, new neighbors, and the owners of the B&B where we were staying were unanimous in their recommendation. Armed with our floor plan on graph paper, tear sheets from magazines and some cottage books all marked with post it notes, we went to our first meeting. I knew we had found our builder when Steve Malcom wrote his comments on my post its. The team at Knickerbocker Group worked with every detail. First and most important was sitting the cottage to take maximum advantage of the ocean views. Building small means using every square foot with attention to traffic flow and multiple uses of the space; our antiques had to fit. And they had to work with antique lights, antique hardware, an old pine floor and a wonderful stone fireplace. The cottage is exactly what we wanted.”
