Our team had the pleasure of joining Thornton Tomasetti at their Portland office for a hands-on sketching workshop led by KG architect and artist Eric Wittman. The informal session, titled “Sketch Something,” brought together architects, engineers, and creatives from both firms to reconnect with the fundamentals of drawing.
From quick gestural sketches to line weight and perspective, Eric walked attendees through a range of exercises designed to boost confidence and inspire creativity—no matter your skill level. The result? A room full of focused, smiling participants, pencils in hand, rediscovering the joy of sketching by hand.

“Everyone loved it! We really got a lot out of the new techniques Eric shared—and a few of us were even inspired to start a ‘sketch-a-day’ at lunch,” shared Annavitte Rand of Thornton Tomasetti.
Eric also left us with a quote that beautifully summed up the spirit of the day:
“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” –Pablo Picasso
A big thank you to Eric for leading such a fun and energizing session—and to our friends at Thornton Tomasetti for welcoming us into their space. Here’s to more creative collaboration in the future!
