We are honored to share that Knickerbocker Group has been named to Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best-in-State Residential Architects, recognizing residential architecture firms that demonstrate excellence in design, a deep mastery of residential practice, and meaningful contributions to their communities and landscapes.
For nearly 50 years, Maine has been an essential part of our story, and to be recognized among the state’s residential architecture firms is an honor we don’t take lightly.
Hearing our clients share their memories of Maine—what first brought them here, what keeps them coming back, and what they hope to create for the future—continues to fuel our passion for thoughtful, enduring design. Maine’s landscape reinforces our appreciation for designing with a sense of place, using materials and strategies that respond thoughtfully to the environment.
The invitation-only selection process included evaluation by Forbes editors and an independent advisory board of experts in architecture, design, sustainability, and architectural history. Firms submitted one “exemplary” home completed since 2021, which was evaluated alongside the firm’s broader body of work. Evaluations considered professional presentation and reputation, as well as a project’s stability, utility, and beauty, and its approach to site, materials, craftsmanship, spatial design, technology, sustainability, and environmental responsiveness.
We are grateful to be included among such accomplished designers from across the country—and especially grateful to the clients, collaborators, craftspeople, and communities who make our work possible.
