Kerry Lewis, PLA

Landscape Architecture Practice Leader, Licensed Landscape Architect, ME + MA

Kerry Lewis has been a licensed landscape architect since 1993 and is currently licensed in Maine and Massachusetts. Kerry joined Knickerbocker Group after two decades running her own successful practice, Kerry Lewis Landscape Architecture, as well as years of professional practice with firms in Boston, New York, and San Francisco. For Kerry, collaboration with a multi-faceted team provides a superior experience, allowing the landscape design to cohesively integrate with the architectural and interior design. At Knickerbocker Group, Kerry works directly with our design teams and clients from project conception through completion to property stewardship. Additionally, Kerry is overseeing the growth of Knickerbocker Group’s landscape architecture practice – discovering, training, and mentoring new talent.

Kerry graduated from Cornell University with a BS with distinction in Landscape Architecture. Her designs are ecologically minded, using locally sourced plants and materials that complement the architecture of the home, nesting the structures into the surrounding landscape. She is passionate about reducing traditional turf in our client’s gardens, replacing this sterile environment with pollinator supporting habitats that also serve to reduce runoff and erosion. She comes by her love of plants and natural areas from growing up on a farm in the Hudson Valley region of New York where her parents owned and operated a perennial nursery in the area for many years.

Kerry enjoys experimenting in her own garden where she has created swaths of gardens including a wildflower meadow teaming with life. The gardens surround a passive solar house, powered by 24 solar panels, and no fossil fuels, that she designed with Mottram Architecture.

KG CULTURE, MISSION + VALUES

For Kerry, the number one joy at Knickerbocker Group is the interdisciplinary collaboration. Kerry loves that KG’s team is always encouraging the cross pollination of ideas. The social events as a team, such as Paint Night or a Hearty Roots’ ‘Paddle for a Purpose’, is an added perk, demonstrating our firm’s community involvement! And she is always up to join your Trivia Night!

LIFE IN MAINE

It is all about the natural environment. Spending as much time on the water as possible in summer and loves snowshoeing through the quiet woods in winter. The burst of new green in spring coupled with the brilliant colors of fall round out the power of the seasons. I am also inspired by the nearly constant rotation of events showcasing the incredible breadth of Maine’s talented artists and craftspeople. A personal goal for the coming year is to get back to watercolor painting, fed by the natural beauty of Maine as well as the inspiration of fellow artists.
